‘Murdered’ girl found with lover in Varanasi

RANCHI: A 21-year-old girl from Giridih whose alleged murder led to the arrest of four persons, including her husband, two years ago, was arrested from Varanasi where she stayed with her lover.

Giridih police on Monday produced Pinki Devi in the court of the chief judicial magistrate, which ordered 14-day judicial custody. She was arrested on charges of conspiracy.

The development put an end to the two-year ordeal of her in-laws and husband Arun Rana (28), who were jailed in 2011 on murder charges.

Pinki, who is 23 years now, got married to Arun on June 2, 2010. On May 26, 2011, she went missing under mysterious circumstances fromBilaspur railway station. The couple were on their way to to Nagpur where the boy's father, a railway staff, was posted.

Arun reported the matter to GRP and searched for the girl but in vain. Family members of the girl panicked and also searched for her but did not get any news of Pinki. After a week, they suspected that Arun had killed their daughter, police said.

Pinki's parents then lodged an FIR with Dhanwar police station following which investigation into the case began. Her parents said in court Arun and his family used to harass Pinki. After due legal process Arun Rana, Gudiya Devi (wife of Arun's elder brother), mother Ramni Devi and father Nunu Rana were arrested and sent to jail on October 16, 2012.

Meanwhile, Pinki went to Varansi where her boyfriend lived. They also had a son after nine months, police said. "More details would be known only after we interrogate the girl," said officer-in-charge of Dhanwar police station Ras Bihari Lal.

Nunu Rana came out on bail early this year and came to know through his sources that the girl was alive and living with her boyfriend in UP. He immediately lodged a complaint with the Giridih CJM court against Pinki's parents and claimed that they (parents of Pinki) had framed them.

The case was later transferred to Dhanwar police station. "During investigation we came to know the love affair of the girl and conducted raids in Varanshi and arrested her under charges of conspiracy," said SDPO Singh.

"The girl wanted to marry her long-time boyfriend but her parents married her off to a local boy in 2010 against her wishes. So she hatched a conspiracy to elope with her long time boyfriend and was successful.

"The parents of the girl thought that the in-laws of the girl had killed her and lodged a case of domestic violence and murder against her husband and his parents on June 26, 2011. After due legal process we subsequently arrested all the four persons and sent them to jail," said Deoghar SDPO Awdesh Kumar Singh.

The girl, with her one-and-a-half-year-old son, was sent to jail on Monday. Police are now looking for the girl's boyfriend who hails from Uttar Pradesh.

The duo had met in Giridih before 2010 when the boy, who was with a private firm in Uttar Pradesh, had come to Giridih on an official tour.

Giridih SP Kranti Kumar Garhadeshi said that the case was rarest of the rare one.

"Now we will take action against the girl and her boyfriend as per the law," said Kranti Kumar.

The family of neither Arun nor Pinki could be contacted for comments. Arun's brother Ashok Rana was heard on local TV saying, "The girl had trapped my family members in a false case. I hope that all of my family members would be acquitted soon."
