5 BPO officials booked for harassing female employee

MOHALI: A female employee of a leading Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) center in Industrial Area phase-VIII accused five officials of her call center for sexually harassment, mental agony and criminal intimidation on Thursday. Police have registered an FIR and started the investigation. The booked officials were included Vishal Jhakmi, Vishal, Deepankar, Sushant and Anivesh Tiwari.
Police sources said the allegations came after half-and-hour after handing over a notice in the hands of victim by her superiors on December 11. Sources further stated booked officials have decided to produce other female employees of BPO in their support while rejecting the allegations before the investigators.
Police also have decided to procure footages of CCTV cameras installed inside the premises of BPO of past one week for ascertaining genuineness of allegations.
Sub Inspector Ram Darshan, inchagre of PP Industrial Area, said, "During initial questioning booked officials claimed that allegations came after serving a show cause notice in the hands of victim regarding her professional performance. Officials also assured to produce witnesses in their favors."
In her written statement to police, victim, who is native of neighboring state and residing in Mohali, alleged officials were compelling her to developed friendly relations with her and harassing her with unnecessary comments. Sources said victim has not mentioned about any independent witness in her complaint and neither produces any document in the favor of her allegations.
A case was registered at Phase-I police station.
