Man, two others arrested for killing wife's ex-husband

NEW DELHI: Three men were arrested in the Jaitpur area of southeast Delhi for murdering a 34-year-old man by slitting his throat and then smashing his face with a brick.

Police said that one of the accused was married to the former wife of the deceased, which led him to plan the murder.

The incident came to light when the body of a man was found with his face smashed beyond recognition on Monday afternoon. It was immediately sent for postmortem.

The cops found a purse in the man's pocket which had a bank deposit slip. He was identified as Nabi Mohd. The police then questioned Nabi's wife, Noor Fatima, who initially gave contradictory statements. On being interrogated further, Fatima broke down and revealed all the details.

When Nabi came to know of it, he got Irfan and Fatima married. After they got married, Nabi started blackmailing them and threatened to reveal their relationship.

On Monday, Irfan and his accomplices, Rakesh and Suraj, called Nabi to the Pushta Road for a settlement. An altercation broke out between the four of them. Irfan and his aides slit Nabi's throat with a knife and later smashed his face with a brick so that he is not identified.

On the basis of their investigation, police arrested the three of them. "A case has been registered in this regard and further investigation is going on to recover the weapon that was used for themurder," said P Karunakaran, DCP, southeast.

The accused have been charged under Section 302 IPC (murder) and other relevant sections of IPC.
