BIZARRE: Fixed deposit worth R 50,000 a must for love marriage!

Allahabad: Dreams of poor lovers of Uttar Pradesh came crashing down with the recent Allahabad High Court verdict, which states if you want to marry a girl against the wishes of her family in UP, you must have Rs. 50,000 in your bank account. The lover must place the amount in a fixed deposit in the name of the girl to marry her.

The Allahabad HC’s ruling comes in the wake of number of cases where girls, even minors, go against their families to tie the knot only to be ditched by their husbands.

Acting on a petition by one Rekha from Sant Kabir Nagar, the HC placed this cash guarantee clause to love marriages in the state.

According to Hardoi Police Superintendent Govind Agarwal, the police machinery is faced with a spate of kidnapping cases lodged against consenting adult couples who elope to marry against the wishes of their family members. These cases are later quashed when the girl is found to be major and consenting.

According to reports, the HC verdict will help cops deal with such cases effectively. Also, if there is a fixed deposit of the said amount for three years beforehand, no kidnapping case would be lodged against adult couples.

However, in case somebody tries to ditch a girl after marrying her with the due process set by the HC, he would not only be prosecuted but his money would also be confiscated.
