Producer acquitted

Court absolves Gaurang Doshi of assault charges filed by starlet Flora Saini 7 years ago.

Gaurang Doshi is a relieved man. The Magistrate Court has absolved him of the charges levelled against him by starlet Flora Saini in 2007.

Doshi, who produced films like Deewar and Aankhen, was accused of assaulting Saini, his former live-in partner, on February 14, 2007. In March 2007, he was arrested by the Versova police after the Bombay High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea.

Doshi went to a local court seeking temporary relief from arrest but was told to approach the High Court, which later turned down his plea stating that it was a case of a 'brutal assault'.

Meanwhile, Saini lodged another complaint with the Oshiwara police station, this time alleging that Doshi is sending her obscene texts. The producer was arrested and later released on bail.

According to the complaint filed by Saini, Doshi had hoodwinked her into a relationship by falsely stating that he has divorced his wife. Saini had further alleged that she started living-in with Doshi and put her career on the back burner, after he promised to marry her. But he suddenly changed colours and started abusing her mentally and physically.

Talking about the judgment, which came yesterday afternoon, advocate S S Gandhi who argued for Doshi said, "Flora's application was dismissed on the grounds that she was not married to Doshi. She had demanded Rs 7 crore from him."

When contacted, Gaurang said that he was happy with the judgment "Flora tried to tarnish my image. When one climbs the ladder of success people try to pull him down. That's exactly what happened with me too. But I have been proved innocent."
