PANAJI: Alleging that government authorities are actively implementing "pro-women laws against innocent men", Dadleancho Ekvott, a Goa-based forum formed in support of "innocent men", has called for the setting up of a national commission for men on the lines of National Commission for Women.
Michael Tony Ferns, the founder chairman, said that in the current situation of various crimes against women, they should rightly be protected to the fullest but that shouldn't be at the cost of innocent men.
In a memorandum submitted to chief minister Manohar Parrikar, Ekvott, a wing of Goa citizens' welfare trust, stressed the need to take measures to protect "innocent men victimized by false complaints filed by selfish and corrupt women".
He said that the current situation of women being victimized by some sick men has put innocent men under threat with many lives already ruined.
"Today, some men are under threat with nowhere to go and with no law to support them as the laws are made to protect the women and not the human beings," the memorandum said.
Ferns said that the country has to work towards promoting laws which do not marginalize men or undermine their role in families and society in the name of women empowerment.
Fernandes said that before an FIR is registered, the police have to do their job to find out whether the complaint made by an individual have any substance. He said that men in uniform could be trained to verify complaints instead of registering them and tarnishing the name of "innocent men" whose reputation is destroyed and lives ruined after the news come in the media.
