Karnataka HC judge tells man, marriage is not like buying a new model of car

Bangalore:  As a rebuke to a man who had filed a divorce petition without citing a valid reason and ready to pay Rs. 4 lakh as alimony, a senior Karnataka High Court judge lashed out at him and said `daughters are not for sale and marriage is not like buying a new model of car’.

The man’s petition for divorce was filed in 2010 which was rejected by a local court in 2011. As a result, the man then approached the High Court. The couple was also counseled by 2 judges, Justice KL Manjunath and Justice Ravi Malimath.

During the hearing, the husband’s lawyer did not show up at the court. However, after lunch break when he turned up, he was asked by the judge to attend cases with punctuality. The husband’s advocate then applied for adjournment of the case by a month.

The judge told the husband that there were no evident reasons in their marriage that triggered a divorce. Also, the husband’s mother testified that as per the couple the relationship was going good and there were no apparent reasons why a divorce was demanded.

The court was ready to pass its judgment on the case as did not approve of giving more time as the arguments were over. The next hearing in the case will be on to Thursday for orders.
