Three arrested for burning youth alive

SURAT: A 25-year-old youth was burnt alive by three persons for allegedly forcing a married woman to have relationship with him. The half burnt body of Ankur alias Akrosh Santosh Sonavane was found in a rivulet on Bamroli road in Khatodara. There were some injury marks, too, on his body.
Police arrested Mayur Chavda, Deva alias Devji Chavda and Suresh Jogal from their houses at Mafat Nagar in Udhna on Friday after investigation revealed that the trio had met the victim on Thursday night and killed him.
Sonavane was a labourer and had failed to return home on Thursday night. Mayur had called Sonavane for a meeting behind Morarji Vasahat. The victim was allegedly harassing Mayur's sister for the last few months over telephone. She had an affair with Sonavane before she got married a few months ago and left Surat. Her family had refused to accept their marriage proposal.
The deceased had been pressurizing her to continue relationship with him. When she said it was not possible as she was now married, Sonavane allegedly started harassing her. The woman informed her brother Mayur about it. Mayur asked Sonavane to stop harassing his sister and there was a scuffle between them at the meeting.
Sonavane was taken to a remote location in Dindoli by the accused trio on a motorcycle (GJ-5-CH-7341). He was thrashed by Mayur, Deva and Suresh near Kharvasa Canal. They hit him with stones subsequent to which he became unconscious. They took Sonavane to Bamroli Road from there in an unconscious state and sprinkled petrol over him before allegedly burning him alive, police said.
Sonavane died from severe injuries on head and burns after sometime. His body was found the next day.
