Goon murdered by live-in partner

AKOLA: Chetan Bhutada (35), a notorious criminal was brutally murdered by Mahananda (30), who was living in with him. Police said Mahananda's sister Padma also helped her kill Bhutada in New Colony area of village Katepurna, nearly 20km from here on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
Mahananda and Chetan have been living in since the last five years, but never got married. Chetan was originally a resident of Jalgaon Jamod in neighbouring Buldhana district. He was a drinker and was known for committing thefts. It is learnt he harassed Mahananda and beat her up regularly in a drunken state.
Fed up with the constant physical and mental torture, Mahananda took the help of her sister Padma (32) and beat up Chetan with a wooden stick. Chetan was angered by this, and he attempted to kill Mahananda by pouring kerosene on her.
Fearing for her life, Mahananda also poured on Chetan and set him afire. However, Mahananda immediately regretted her act, and rushed to extinguish the fire that had caught Chetan's hair. However, Chetan breathed his last on the spot due to the combined effect of the beating he had received earlier and the burn injury.
The two sisters tried to pass off Chetan's demise as a natural death, but a neighbour informed the police. During investigations, the police also summoned the dog squad, which led the cops to Mahananda, who later confessed to the crime.
Police have registered an offence of murder against the sisters, who were arrested on Wednesday. Further investigation is on.
