'90,000 men commit suicide ever year in India'

The Men's Rights Association in the city said on Saturday that almost 90,000 men commit suicide per year, according to data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
Deepak Joshi, an executive member of the association, said, "NCRB data shows that almost 90,000 men commit suicide in a year in India. However, we as a society are not used to viewing the data in this manner."
The association members were addressing a press conference announcing their plans to commemorate International Men's Day on November 19. "The day is celebrated in almost 60 countries across the globe and we have been trying to popularise the day in India for the past three years," said Joshi. The association also plans to put up a stall near Balgandharva on November 19 to create awareness about the day in the city. In fact, as a part of the initiative, the association has also approached corporate houses to celebrate the day within their respective organisations. "Compared to previous years, this year we have got more response from corporate houses, some of whom plan to generate bulk emails for their employees on November 19. The motive is to create awareness about the rights of men in the city," Joshi said.
