Monty Panesar in bitter divorce from wife

Troubled England cricketer Monty Panesar’s life has been sent into a spin by a bitter divorce from his wife.
His heartache was revealed two weeks after the devout Sikh was seen urinating on nightclub bouncers following complaints from female customers he was pestering them.
Bowler Monty, dropped by England for the Ashes series because of his poor form, later admitted he had started drinking with his Sussex team-mates.
A source said the reason for the 31-year-old’s troubles on and off the pitch was his finalised divorce from pharmacist wife Gursharan Rattan. The star has kept a lid on their separation.
The insider said: “Monty was devastated by the breakdown of his marriage and is still coming to terms with his recent divorce. His personal struggles have been a direct result of that.”
A spokesman for the devastated star spinner confirmed: “Yes, they have divorced.”
Friends say he blames his wife’s family for making their marriage “increasingly difficult”.

Divorce: Monty's ex-wife Gursharan
Monty married Gursharan three years ago in a traditional Sikh ceremony. The Luton-born player had praised her for the “greater stability” she gave him during the early days of his successful England career.
They enjoyed a honeymoon in the US before moving to Hove in East Sussex as Panesar signed a three- year contract to play for Sussex.
But the cracks appeared when the popular player was quizzed by police after he was seen rowing with his wife in a pub car park in 2011.
He was also arrested at a relative’s home on suspicion of common assault after a call from a member of the public – but no further action was taken against him.
The couple were sharing a home in Brighton as Gursharan commuted to London where she now works as a locum. Then a fortnight ago Monty was thrown out of the seaside town’s Shoosh Club at 4am.
Bouncers moved in to eject him after he upset a group of women at the beachfront nightspot. He then staggered up to the promenade above the club and urinated through the railings onto the doormen below before running off.
The bouncers cornered him in a pizza restaurant where he was heard shouting: “Help! Help!”
He was taken back to the club as police were called and he agreed to accept a £90 spot fine for being drunk and disorderly.
Now Monty, who is studying for a sports science master’s degree, could face the sack this week from his county team Sussex. But his former club Northamptonshire could offer him a lifeline to rebuild his shattered career.
Our source said the cricketer “had been working hard to rebuild his marriage” when his wife filed for divorce. “He did everything he could to make it work,” said the source.
“But ultimately he felt there were some insurmountable family issues and this became an increasingly difficult factor within the marriage. He is still sad that they couldn’t make it work. Monty is a great guy who is well liked by all of his colleagues in cricket.
“His full focus is now on his cricket and working hard in order to again be selected for England.”
